Here are the archived sessions from PCamp, and a great wrap-up video produced by TOPP. Read below to see how our virtual participation went down:
ABOUT VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION AT PCAMP
The Internet has made politics and governance more inclusive, and we want to extend that benefit to PCamp. We’ll be holding a simultaneous virtual un-conference for participants who cannot make the trip to NYC. Using the latest online group tools, we’ll have a full range of virtual sessions throughout both conference days.
Virtual participants should register for a “Virtual PCamper” ticket on pcamp.eventbrite.com.
JOIN OUR PRE-CONFERENCE CHAT
Our Skype chat is ongoing between now and Sunday (and perhaps beyond). For an invite, email your skype name to participationcamp@gmail.com with “skype” in the subject. We’ll add you to the conversation.
VIRTUAL ROOM @ ITP
We’ll dedicate one conference room to speakers who will join us virtually. We’ll put the speaker up on the big screen, and provide ways for audience members to ask questions.
SOFTWARE YOU’LL NEED
Virtual conference sessions will potentially take place on a number of sites and platforms. Here are two we’re already planning to use.
SKYPE
Skype, an application for phone calls over the Internet, is required for participation. It is available for free download at Skype.com. Your computer must be equipped with a microphone.
TEAMSPEAK
While Skype conference calls max out at 25 participants, TeamSpeak can handle up to 150. It is available for free download at TeamSpeak.com. Your computer must be equipped with a microphone.
VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION BEGINS JUNE 22nd
On June 22nd, we will create a chat space/conversation in Skype to which we will invite all those that are interested in participating in an open dialogue on issues relating to open governance. This chat space will allow you the opportunity to:
- Introduce yourself and your project to others that are like minded
- Connect with others that might be interested in your project or might have interesting project ideas.
- Learn, via participation, about how open, collaborative, patterns of interaction work
- Learn, via participation, how groups self organize

Why not IRC @ irc.freenode.net ?
How do you call yourself inclusive if you limit your sessions to 25 or even 150 participants ?
asdf
- We are prepared to shift tools if that becomes necessary (based on our registration numbers, it won’t), and IRC would be the next logical step. As a starting point, IRC can be intimidating to the non-technical user. Geeky interface is its own form of disinclusion.
-Matt Cooperrider
asdf I should add: we are using skype chat, which covers most functions of IRC, and handles many users (not sure of upward limit)
